Yard CalculatorA Beginners Guide Golf scoring and calculation of a golf handicap

Start with a scratch player. A scratch player is a very good player for whom the measurement of HBP is how it should play on the course, ie if the price is 73 then it should take 73 shots to move. If he plays a hole of 250 meters in length, we assume that it should reach the green in one shot and then take two putts to hole the ball. This hole is a par 3.

Every hole of 251 yards and about 470 meters is classified as a par 4, where a player will scratch two shots hit the green, followed by two putts. A par 5 is over 470 meters and in this case, we assume our player will scratch three shots hit the green, was followed by the regulation two putts to hole the ball.

If you add the pars of all eighteen holes, it will give you at par for the course. Any player who can go around the scratch will be type club professional or amateur, the international standard. If you were a handicap 6, you hope to tour the course of six strokes more than the Normal. Men are generally a maximum handicap of 28, even if they take more than twenty eight strokes above normal. For ladies, the maximum is 36.

The Scoreboard

When you look at the scoreboard, you'll see that it is arranged in columns. The first column gives the film or the distance from the hole which is measured from the tee to green center when going down the middle of fairway. Next in the hole which is followed by the index stroke. The time index is a measure of the difficulty of the hole, with 1 being the worst and 18 the easiest. After these columns come to write your score.

The local rules of the course is usually on the back of the scorecard, as well as details on how to calculate handicaps for different competitions. The local rules give you instructions about the limits of areas on the course and things like if you are allowed to remove stones from bunkers.

So now you know how to score, all that remains is for you to get out there and have a go. Good luck!
