I want to spray the black paint after getting the rust.

I have lots of wrought iron in my yard and new paint rust encapsulating it is not necessary to remove all rust before priming and painting. The best I know is the Rustoleum primer and textured wrought iron paint. I do not recommend Hammerite that I used in the past, but I'm finding that the rust came back and I need to repaint the parts with Rustoleum. I just wire brush to remove anything lost my pieces or peel and wipe the dust before Prime Minister and paint. I use spray paint and high recommend buying one of the triggers in the home center to give you a uniform spray and save your fingers.

If it is too bad chipping rust with sand blasting.

The steel wool, a wire brush or sanding are your only options. Then paint it with Rustoleum product to prevent rust again.

It is "wrought iron. If the rust is not too bad, you can just spray paint Rustoleum. If you really want or need to remove rust, use steel wool and rub . Then paint with a spray paint product. There are many great new spray paints that simulate various finishes.

If you have beach access, then tow the door a few miles behind your car do this, remove the old paint in no time, return to clean both sides.

There are products available (hardware, paint shops and steel trade) that neutralize the rust. After the application is going over with the steel wool dry and apply paint. If you do not want to buy product brush the rust with a wire brush or rub with steel wool and clean the surface with rubbing alcohol before painting.

I use a rough wire brush available in hardware stores and then something to remove loose rust and old paint. that Rustoleum spray paint or equivalent works well then, or you can get a brush on paint for the purposes of rust.
