A test which is common for pipes with gaskets such as PVC is the combined leak and pressure "test. This test is intended to verify both the capacity and pressure seals the pipe at the same time.
The procedure of this test is to first complete a section of the line with water. Then, additional water is pumped into the line until the section is raised to a desired test pressure. The system is then closed and held for a specified trial period, usually two hours.
During the two hours, it is possible that the system pressure may fall. If the pressure drop is fast during practice, it is likely that a large leak is present in the system. This could mostly be attributed to improper assembly of a fitting, pipe joint or connection service.
However, assuming proper installation and assembly were performed, it is possible to have a very slight downward pressure on the 2:00. To establish a limit for allowable pressure drop, a table of "total allowable leakage" has been created. This table shows the maximum volume of water that can be added to the system after a leak pressure test / indicated a slight drop in pressure. For example, a 1000 m 300 mm PVC water main with gaskets, a maximum volume of 7.6 L of extra water (in theory, leaks occur during testing) is allowed to add a test for 1035 kPa (equivalent to 2.0 U.S. gal. for 3300 12 foot "pipe tested at 150 psi). If larger volumes of water are needed, the test is considered a failure and the installer must locate and repair the gaps.
Following this picture of "leakage" of benefits, many people have a common perception that seals PVC is still leaking some extent. In fact, although assembled PVC pipe will be sealed bottle.
This assertion is verified by rigorous testing performed on the seal to the manufacturing plant. PVC gasket and pressure, to be certified to CSA B137.3, and comply with ASTM D 3139, must undergo two tests:
(A 60) minutes at 2.5 times the rated pressure of pipe (ie 588 psi for DR18)
(B) 60-70 seconds at 3.2 times the rated pressure of pipe (ie 755 psi for DR18)
