Painting cedar fence panels we need a primer coat before applying acrylic paint? We had to replace our white fence panels due to insect damage, apparently the previous owner had not used treated wood. When we bought panels we have been told to leave without pay for about one month, then painting them. Although the purchase of exterior paint, I read that raw wood needs primer before painting, but as having been "treated" I wonder if we can skip the primary part.
Yes, you must begin the wood. I worked at Sherwin Williams for four summers while attending college. Using primer helps the paint adhere to the wood better. In addition, it will help the paint go further and not only penetrate the wood. You will get more legs of a gallon of paint and primer is usually a little cheaper than paint if you use more of that, it is ok.
Do not paint the fence as stain comes in many solid colors today and water proof and prevent meldew. Go to Home Depot Report Abuse
tannins in the cedar will bleed through the paint. You would need a primer like Bullseye or Binzer Kilzer (make sure it is for cedar as they are different types of primers).
If you do not first and for preparation of wood, the paint will peel faster than it usually does.
If it was my fence, I'd spot or simply use a UV protectant and allow the cedar to its natural color.
Pain in the butt to paint a fence, much easier to color.
I would not skip the primer, but you can ask. There should be an 800 number on your paint. Give them a call
not "treated" means for bugs?
then it does not mean that it has begun ... then call that 800 # and wait for the Prime
