Reflections on the PIF-300 PetSafe electric fence? We are close to buying the Electric Fence PetSafe (wirelessly without cables) for $ 258 from Petsmart. Anyone have any pro / cons on using this?
Our puppy is 16 weeks and weights 20 pounds now and we expect it rises to about 40 pounds at maturity. Our garden is full of trees (0.5 acre) for a real closure is out of question. We intend to use the lowest setting or beep only mode.
Thank you
I think it depends on your dog is taken out of your yard and what kind of distractions are outside the "restricted" area. My £ 90 GSD blows throughout the PetSafe invisible barrier we have installed. It crosses the signal before the pass has a chance to pick it up. He will visit the neighbors' dogs, because it is a very sociable dog. We ended up calling the Invisible Fence company and their system is better for us for several reasons. So if you have a dog that has to go outside to see if other dogs to chase a rabbit, squirrel or cat you would be better with an invisible fence and they can channel their son wherever you want.
Try it yourself. It should be safe. If you are concerned about a permanent shock, you can use a GFCI on the fence. The Ground Fault Circuit Interrupt outlet will shut off power with as little as four thousandths of an ampere. Honestly, I doubt that you need. Personally I use a fence. Even so, my dog came out on occasion. Follow the instructions and everything will be fine.
Pro-Your dog will not leave
Con-If your dog exits the fence and shocked, it is highly unlikely that it will go, because he will again shocked.
Well guess if you can string any wire from a tree to a fence is your only option.
The problem I have heard from others is that really a trained dog (chasing something)
will blow throughout the Stim (how hard is it / test it yourself electric shock * = Some are the equivalent of a 9V battery when you put your tongue on it)
Find out if your dog gets a time from the other side of the barrier
Can he return? stimmed or get new?
I think you should re-examine the possibility of a fence of tree to tree, just do not wrap a tree with wire duct is her and she will die.
We all love the idea of an electric fence but I do not think that the dream work is the real risk of losing your dog.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not use an electric fence to contain your pup.
Anything that provides an electric shock to your dog will severely damage her!
THE TRUTH ABOUT shock collars:

Please leave him in place when she is outside. Or take her to obedience training if it will follow your voice commands.
A Jack Russell Terrier came into my house about 10 months ago .. He had severe neurological damage from a shock collar. He did not trust new people, and will not hesitate to tell them in the teeth. After being in foster care for seven months by an employee who is a professional dog trainer, Riley has not improved. He has no behavioral assessment 3 times. Dawn (the coach) was adopted because if it had not, he would have been euthanized.
Please do not use shock collars or electric fences to train your dog.
