Were you to take an Asco solenoid into pieces, the most interesting would probably be looking a spool engine, with cap or cylindrical armature designed to fit perfectly inside of it, to inside or just outside the cavity of the coil. Solenoid frames always have a spring-loaded hinge, positioned so as to balance the force exerted on the slug by the coil, and so return the ball to its original position after activation.
