Hose Water Meter

Posted on June 10, 2010.
Hose Water MeterWithout the help of a water meter, how do you find the speed of water leaving a hose?

I guess the water from a hose can be considered a projectile (with v = d / t and other forms) .. right? But it is somewhat difficult to measure the time it takes water to reach the ground. Is there a way around this?

measure the height of the water goes when the hose is held in place. You have the initial velocity, V, and acceleration g =- You know the distance, H. Find balance and solve for V.

Divide 60 by the number of seconds it takes to fill a 1 gallon bucket - that yields gallons per minute.
