water softener and planning the garden? I plan a garden for next spring and I was wondering about irrigation .... The use of additional water from the hose to get me to put salt softener PLUS and smooth in my salt tank every month?
The gardeners and plumbers opinions welcome.
You do not use salt in your softener if it provides water to your sprinkler system. I probed my sprinkler system before the softener to avoid this problem. If it is operated in the softener after you probably want to use potassium chloride instead of salt in your softener. And since more water through your water softener, you will see your intake of salt (or potassium chloride) down faster.
OR Hope are not planning on watering with softened water. I can not believe that irrigation with salt water would be good for your plants. If you talk to an external source of water that does not pass through the softener, it will not effect the amount of salt you put in your softener.
If you use tap water outside your home, it does not or should not go through your water softener if you have no worries.
Try to buy plants that are drought Hardy and you will not have to water so often. You can get fantastic plants in this range.
Be Water Wise and you can put a little work, money and the environment as well.
