Front Yard Landscape Plans

Posted on August 10, 2010.
Front Yard Landscape PlansI need to know how to start landscaping a front yard. There is only grass in the area I would like plant in.?

I need to know the basics (ie What to do when the grass is dug.) I live in the south. I t is very warm here, but there is little shade at the front of my house. I want to plant boxwood but I also need something in height, perhaps a certain type of topiary. We do not all the trees in front of the hotel and we do not intend to plant one. Any positive feedback will be appreciated.

I tend to fly by the seat of my pants and just things the factories where they look good to me. What you're supposed to do is draw your garden on graph paper and decide where you want your plants before you innovate. I'm not used to all the trouble.

You can rent a tiller to break up the soil where you plant and work in any soil amendments (compost, gypsum, garden, etc.) if you are planting a large area. I always do it by hand using my garden claw. It is more work and takes more time but I do not mind. I plant flowers small, anyway.

Always dig your planting hole larger than your shrub. I'd go with two times larger than the root ball. There is an old adage: never put a plant in a hole 50cent 25cent. You must have the soil around the plantation where you are sufficiently upset if the new plant can establish roots.

Boxwood are nice. You can buy shrubs pruned and trained topiary that alreay. They are enough to accents or sides of a walkway or entrance. If you want the color that you could add a few annuals, or containers for flower bed or maybe. The containers are easy to move and change. In the shaded area I recommend Hosta. It is a small perennial growth (which means you plant it once and it comes every year) and comes in many colors of the foliage. The flowers range from white to blue / lavender.
