Introduction
A cyst has been traditionally defined as a pathological epithelium lined cavity usually containing liquid or semi-material (Killey and Kay - 1966). The currently accepted definition is the one invented by Kramer in 1974 as "a pathological cavity having fluid, solid or gaseous content and is often but not always lined by epithelium.
Jaw cysts are often lined by a layer of the epithelium and connective tissue layer and the underlying layers can be dissected easily from the bone. The thickness and configuration of this surface varies with the type of cyst. These cysts develop either by the proliferation of epithelial debris in the jaw or the transformation of cystic neoplastic tissues.
Classification
Many classifications have been published cysts of the jaw. Most of them are quite satisfactory in the clinical evaluation and practice.
