If someone who is Native American get a discount on the college? My friend is part Cherokee Indian and said shed be able to enter a college discount. Firstly is this true. second of all do u think its fair?
In Canada, your Band you pay for college. They pay the money the government gives them. This may seem very unfair and it might even be.
The reason why the government is to make it for a period of time when Indians were isolated in areas of low land areas called reserves and their children carried off without their permission and placed in special schools where religion Catholic has been imposed. Many of these children have been molested, fled, and even suicide. The schools have been a complete failure. That the Government of Canada has acknowledged and apologized for.
The history of the United States is equally disturbing. You should research.
@ Mr.Two
I am a Registered Indian as defined by the Indian Act in Canada (half Indian)
To speak for Canada, the government did not "give money" in the direct sense that people think. Indirectly, yes, they pay for our college or university. My group paid for the mine and pay me the cost of living (very modest), while I was in school full time. My wife works in a bank and cash the checks that First Nations receive their group (they call the paychecks). Some of these funds will come from First Nations commercial enterprises, but where do you think the rest comes from???
BTW Again I speak only from Canada. Perhaps the U.S. does not give a penny of their Indians in the restitution of what was taken.
PS Google "tuition native american" and see the results. You do not think that these failures of education are subsidized by the government???
Yes it's true and yes I think the Indians should get a discount on a college since we won the America of them
I do not think its rebate, if the tribe is to help his salary is another matter. And it would not just give everything, as the rebates if its a school for the Cherokee Indians.
I hope this is true and it is fair. Me know that some Native Americans who have struggled.
Your friend may be getting some sort of scholarship through his tribal relations, or a school or a government scholarship. There is no automatic update Native American college. You can try other awards yourself, depending on your HS grades, college major, ethnicity, parents' employment or union membership, ect .. I do not think the situation you describe is just if it is only based on race, but life is often unfair. Talk to your school counselor and see what financial aid you are eligible.
First ... a person must be a member of a federally recognized tribe or a nation or a watch CDIB Native blood. There is no discount for the university if you can attend one of the only Native American colleges as Haskel University of Lawrence, KS. Some people receive a scholarship or grant to a "public" college or university. Some tribes and nations do offer full scholarships, but they are competitive and the line is long to obtain, other tribes or nations give as little as $ 50 ...
We do not get something for nothing
It depends on the school.
a private college may decide not to have enough Indian and offer a lower rate. But you still have to prove you are Indian.
Some state schools could offer something to members of the tribes of their condition.
Say University of Oklahoma could provide Shawnee or Cherokee tribe members a break.
Who would come from the state itself.
just to dispel a myth.
The EDF does not pay for the Indians to go to college.
The Fed does not give us money "
Indians do not come in ".
