Parts for my forced air system? I have a big problem to find parts, and it is (mostly) the fact that I do not know what the game is called! I'm melting grid floor (registers, vents?) I have restored. The decorative part of the register which is above the ground attached to a device that sits down shutters in the duct. I think * * They are called "boots", but I can not be sure. These devices shutters, being very rusty and strangled with 100 years of pet dander and man, are crude to say the least. Is it possible to find new "boots" to fit different sizes of my vintage records? Thank you!
If you can remove the device below which the shutters, you may be able to be there for a machine shop and have it sand blast. I did register with a floor that had the old blinds constructed on the underside of the grid itself, and they worked very well afterwards. Mind you paint the device after sanded, because the bare metal will rust very quickly otherwise.
You're right in that the vents "are records ........... as far as spare parts, a Google search of" spare floor heating register "(or similar) may be beneficial to you
It's a shame to get rid of "antiques". Why not take a car wash and clean them? Even if you have to re-finish, it's better than buying something new that will not look right and fit properly.
If you perform an Internet search for Old House rooms, many places will rise. You should find what you are looking for someone close to your home. Most do mail order too. Often, they have original pieces or reproductions.
Good luck.
Check with any A / C shop that does installations. If they have a sheet metal shop can build new boots.
